What Are Medical Residency Headshots?
In medical residency and fellowship applications, residents and fellows are usually required to submit a photograph as a part of their application. ERAS is the most popular place for residents to upload their professional headshots.
Professionalism, friendliness, and competence are the goals of residency headshots. Your headshot is the perfect starting point to building a great personal brand that can help you get interviewed and eventually hired by your target residency program.
The photos you submit to ERAS must follow specific guidelines in order to be accepted. To submit a headshot, the file size must be no larger than 100 kilobytes and the image size must be 2.5 in x 3.5 in.
How Do I Do If I’m Non-Photogenic or I Hate Getting My Photo Taken?
You’re covered with Me! With Yobheadshot, we work hard to provide an enjoyable & stress-free work environment for every client.
I’ll will walk you through slowly until we get comfortable together so we may get the best Headshots with great micro expressions.
With our studio, we offer upbeat music that motivates you, and we constantly gather client feedback so that we can work towards taking a headshot that will make you proud to show off online. Due to our exclusive focus on headshots (and not body shots), we are exceptionally proficient at a single service.
What Backdrops are Best for Residency Headshots?
A neutral backdrop is recommended for residency headshots. (Either white, off-white, or grey.)
A headshot taken outside can also be used if desired. However, we have found that a professional studio headshot is more appropriate for this industry.
Due to the size requirements of ERAS headshots, this is especially true. Oftentimes, when taking an outdoor headshot, we lose many of the details in the background since we must compress the photo to under 100kb.
How Should I Dress for the Residency Headshot?
A medical residency headshot should generally be taken in formal business attire. Unless you also have a suit you’re bringing for your main ERAS photo, do not wear scrubs for your headshot.
The medical professional’s conservative nature means that this is the bulletproof rule even when we typically preach flexibility and “tailoring outfits to your personality” for sessions.
Do not dress for a job you have, but rather for the job you want. We will be happy to answer any questions you might have!
Avoid low-cut clothing and wear little jewelry. The attire you wear should generally be conservative to allow faculty members to judge you by your application rather than your picture.
Preparing for Residency Headshots?
Preparing ahead of time for your headshot involves three key steps.
Prior to your session, if possible, try to get plenty of rest, exercise, and sun exposure. Before we deliver your edited photos to you, we will airbrush all your selected photos, but it is up to you to make sure the photos are as natural as possible.
Additionally, before your session, you should briefly wear the clothes you want to wear. It is important to make sure that your outfit still fits correctly and does not need dry cleaning.
The third thing you should do is look at some other photos of yourself. Your photographer will be able to find an angle that suits you more quickly if you present them to him or her at the studio. otherwise, we will just find your best angle and that is not more than 2 min of test shooting.
The main application photo should not be taken wearing a white coat. Photographers may allow you to take an extra image with a white coat, but ERAS photo submissions don’t typically recommend it. We only recommend wearing glasses if you really wear them; statistically, candidates who wear glasses are more likely to receive interview invitations.
